Article Processing Charges (APCs)

To ensure the sustainability of our journal's operations—including peer review, editing, production, and long-term digital archiving—LPM-EMR charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of $2,300 USD for all accepted manuscripts.

  • The APC is only requested after your manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

  • Payments are securely processed through our publisher's system.

  • Authors, universities, grant agencies, or other funding bodies can cover the cost.

Waivers and Discounts

In our commitment to equitable access to publishing, we offer a waiver and discount scheme based on World Bank country classifications and Research4Life groups.

  • 100% Full Waiver: Authors affiliated with institutions in low-income countries (Group A) are granted a full waiver and will not be charged an APC.

  • 75% Partial Waiver: Authors from lower-middle-income countries (Group B) receive a 75% discount, reducing the APC to $575 USD.

  • Standard APC: The full fee of $2,300 USD applies to authors from high-income countries or those with access to institutional or grant funding.

In addition, we may prioritize waivers and discounts for:

  • Authors from public universities and teaching hospitals in the East Mediterranean region.

  • Early-career researchers who do not have formal grant support.

  • Studies addressing urgent regional health challenges (e.g., epidemics, maternal health, or health issues related to conflict).

How to Apply for a Waiver

You must request a waiver during the initial manuscript submission process through our Editorial Manager system. Your request should include:

  • A brief justification (250 words or less).

  • Your country and institutional affiliation.

  • Details of any existing research funding.

Our Editorial Office will review your request and communicate a decision within five business days. Waivers cannot be requested after a manuscript has been accepted.

Funding and Institutional Agreements

Before you submit, check if your institution, ministry, or research council participates in publishing agreements with Web of Science – East Mediterranean (WOS-EMR) or Elsevier. These agreements may cover APCs in part or in full. Many major global funders (such as WHO-EMRO, Wellcome Trust, and the Gates Foundation) also have policies that cover or require the use of APCs.

Editorial Independence

Your APC status has no impact on editorial or peer review decisions. We use a double-anonymized peer review system, meaning reviewers and editors are not aware of any waiver requests. Editorial independence is a core policy of both WOS-EMR and the Global Research Collaboration Hub (GRC Hub).
