Guidelines for Authors – Journal of Advanced Research – East Mediterranean (JAREM)

Journal Overview

The Journal of Advanced Research – East Mediterranean (JAREM) is dedicated to publishing top-tier, original research spanning various scientific fields. The journal places a particular emphasis on biomedical research, public health, applied sciences, and innovations in clinical practice relevant to the East Mediterranean region. JAREM welcomes submissions of original studies, systematic reviews, case reports, and concise research communications that offer fresh perspectives and contribute meaningfully to scientific and medical advancement.

Editorial Policy and Peer Review

  • All manuscripts must present original work that is not being considered by another journal and must adhere to ethical standards.
  • The editorial team initially reviews each submission to assess its relevance and adherence to formatting guidelines.
  • Suitable submissions are forwarded to 2 to 4 qualified peer reviewers.
  • JAREM conducts double-blind peer review, ensuring anonymity for both authors and reviewers.
  • Editorial decisions are made impartially, with no conflicts of interest influencing outcomes.

Accepted Article Types

  • Original Research: Up to 5,000 words, with a structured abstract (maximum 300 words), up to six tables/figures, and a maximum of 40 references.
  • Systematic Reviews/Meta-Analyses: Require a structured abstract, PRISMA flowchart, checklist, and brief biographies of the authors.
  • Case Reports: Reports of rare or educationally significant clinical cases; limit is 2,000 words.
  • Short Communications: Concise research reports; limited to 3,000 words and six figures/tables.

Required Documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Title page (includes title, authors, affiliations, corresponding author info, short title, acknowledgements, funding, conflicts of interest, CRediT author contributions)
  • An anonymized main manuscript file (abstract, keywords, body text, references, tables, figures with captions)
  • Conflict of Interest disclosure
  • Ethics approval statement (if applicable)
  • Graphical abstract (not required for letters or case reports)
  • Author bios (required for review articles)
  • Research highlights (5 bullet points, each no longer than 85 characters)

Formatting Guidelines

  • Use 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font
  • Double-spacing and single-column format
  • Include line numbering and page numbers
  • SI units should be used; define any uncommon abbreviations upon first use

Abstract Guidelines

  • Original Articles: Structured abstract (Introduction, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusion), ≤300 words.
  • Review Articles: Structured abstract (Background, Aim, Key Concepts).
  • Case Reports: Unstructured abstract allowed; max 200 words.
  • Keywords: Provide 4–6 keywords, separated by semicolons.

Ethical Compliance

  • All research involving humans or animals must have approval from a recognized ethics committee or IRB.
  • Include the approval number and patient consent details where applicable.
  • The journal strictly follows the Declaration of Helsinki and WHO guidelines for transplantation ethics.
  • For studies involving human organs or tissues, proof of ethical procurement and consent is mandatory.

Use of AI Tools

Any AI-assisted technologies used in preparing the manuscript must be disclosed in a section before the references.

Example: “During manuscript preparation, the authors utilized [Tool Name] to [explain purpose]. The final content was reviewed and approved by the authors.”

Referencing Format

  • Use numbered in-text citations (Vancouver style)
  • Abbreviate journal titles using the Index Medicus format

Data Sharing and Transparency

  • Clinical trials must be registered, and the ID should appear in the abstract.
  • Systematic reviews should follow PRISMA guidelines; clinical trials should use CONSORT.
  • Authors are encouraged to share datasets and supplementary files to enhance transparency.

After Acceptance

  • A proof version will be sent to the corresponding author for final corrections.
  • Authors must return corrections within 48 hours.
  • Articles will be made available online with a DOI prior to print publication.
